Team Effort

The Yankee team put together the ultimate team effort as each and every player somehow contributed to this hard fought game to defeat the visiting NV Knights 9-5 at heritage on Saturday.

With the score tied at 5 in the Eight,  RF  Fede Brooks got things started by doubling to the right field gap, Fed moved to third on CF Ed Pearson's infield single, SS Tim Nargi then hit a Sac Fly to center to score Fede and the Yanks led 6-5, DH Rick Fisher, P Adam Kearny and 1B Jon Bybee all followed with hits to break the game open 9-5.

Gary Marean was forced into an emergency start and pitched well to keep the Yanks in a tie game through 5 innings, Adam Kearny came on in the 6th and proceed to no hit and strike out 6 Knight batters to earn the win.

1B Jon Bybee went 4 for 5 on the day and DH Rick Fisher and P Adam Kearny each had 3 hits for the Yanks. the Yanks also flashed some leather as 3B Chris Shaklee had a day making several plays, RF Fede Brooks robbed a Knight batter of a hit with a diving catch and the middle infield of 2B Frank Ingoglia and SS Tim Nargi turned a pretty Double Play.

Yankee pitcher Chris Shaklee locked up in a pitchers duel with Hawks Beckner through 6 innings the game was locked up at 2 as both team scratched run early with one coming from Yankee catcher Adam Kearny Homerun, but neither  team could advance runners past 2nd base as the game moved on.

In the 7th Eddie Pearson led off with an infield hit, the Hawks thinking that Pearson would be bunted over played with the infielder drawn inward. LF Robbie Miller faked a bunt and then slashed a single to right center.  Nargi then went to his bench and called on  pinch hitter Fede Brooks; who laid down a beautiful bunt to move the runners and Fede beat the throw to load the basses. RF Zach Larson then singled to center plating two runs and the Yankees went ahead 4-2, pinch hitter Jon Bybee then launched a deep drive to right for a SAC-Fly RBI to score Fede from third and move Larson to 3rd; Larson later scored on a wild pitch to increase the Yank lead to 6-2 after 7 innings.

In the 8th the Yankees put this one away as the Yankees pinch ran with all their speedsters and a big triple by Zach Larson and the Hawks could not handle the Yankee base runners surrendering 3 more runs and a 9-2 Yankee lead and final score.

Two Game sweep on the Road

Game 1

The Yankees traveled down to Bowling Green Virginia to take on the Richmond Diamondbacks of the Richmond NABA.  Game one had an auspicious beginning as the Richmond team put up a 6 runs on 5 hits on Yankee starter Gary Marean in the bottom of the first. The Yanks were only able to chip away the lead with 3 runs in the 2nd and 3rd, but the D'Backs continued to hit Marean and scored a run in each inning taking a commanding 9-3 lead.   The Yankees seamed dead for most of the game as no runner got past 2nd until the 7th with one down SS Tim Nargi singled to right then stole second, 1B Mike Kay followed with a sharp single to left but Nargi had to hold a third, C Ryan Parent flied to Right ; Nargi tagged and just beat the throw home  which showed a spark finally in the Yankee dugout.

With P Chris Shaklee taking over in the 3rd inning the D'Back were held in check which set up the dramatic 8th inning Yankee explosion. Down 9-4 the inning started off tame enough as PH Robbie Miller and LF Zach Larson drew a walk, after a infield fly the offense began. DH Devan Ewell doubled to left center cutting the D'Back lead to 3, 3B Logan Springer then double to left and the Yanks were now only down by 2, Next up DH Rick Fisher singled up the middle and the score now was D'Back 9 - Yankees 8.  Jamien Payne then pinch ran for Fisher representing the tying run, JP stole second then  moved to 3rd on a wild pitch as 2B Frank Ingoglia drew a walk, and he (twinkle toes) promptly stole second, this set the stage for SS Nargi who lined a single to center tying the game at 9 and the Yanks had come all the way back. With the game knotted at 9, Nargi stole 2nd then pinch hitter Gary Marean redeemed himself with a sharp grounder that found its way through the D'Back first baseman allowing Ingoglia and Nargi to score, the Yankee picked up one more run on a D'Back error and now led the game 12-9.

The D'Backs did not quit and struck for 2 in the bottom of the 8th to make it a one run game, but Chris Shaklee Struck-out the side in the 9th to preserve the Yankee come-from-behind victory at Bowling Green Saturday.

The Yankees also flashed the glove in this one as Springer charged a slow dribble to third and threw out an Indian at Home, 2B Tim Nargi stole two hits with a diving stop and snagged a grounder up the middle turning that into an out, and SS Devan Ewell picked  a hard hit short hop and threw out the batter to rob yet another potential Indian hit

Prince William, VA--- June 2, 2009

Sloppy

In Command of the Division

After blowing a 9th inning lead the Yankees came back with a vengeance led by LF Robbie Millers two Homeruns and 6 RBI day and ten runned the Hawks 11-1 to take game 2.   Yankee pitcher Chris Shaklee was outstanding once again allowing a one hit and no runs over 5 innings of work, yankee defense was up to the task as well with CF Ed Pearson robbing a Hawk batter with a full out diving catch, and not to be outdone Yankee RF Zach Larson gunned down a Hawk runner at the plate. The Yanks finish the day with a win and a tie thus take a commanding lead in the Prince William Division

Pitching however was the story of the day for the Yankees hurler Chris Shaklee was perfect till the 5th adn surrendered the only hit he would give up on the day in the 6th along the way Shaklee struck out 11 D'Back batters in 5 2/3 inning of work, Scott Vang came on and threw 1 1/3 inning of scoreless relief and completed the Double Header sweep.

Prince William, VA--- April 25, 2009

Gritty Comeback

The Yankees mounted a comeback late in this one as they took advantage of a couple walks, timely hitting and aggressive base-running. In the Eighth with runners on 1st and 2nd and one down, Eddie Pearson singled in the tying run then Pinch Hitter Ryan Parent down 0-2 in the count produced a ground ball to the right side that the D'Backs tried to convert into a double-play, Ryan easily beat the throw to first as Rob Riley raced around from 2nd base to score on the play.

The story of this game was pitching as Yanks Dan Eadie and D'Backs Mike Furr kept both line-ups off balance early.  The D'Backs finally got to a tiring Eadie in the 5th for 2-runs to take 3-1 lead and looked to break the game open; The Yankees went to their bull-pen and brought in Rob Riley who struck out Josh Brown to end the threat.  Rob allowed the Yankees to stay in the game scattering a couple hits and some big K's in the 7th and 8th as Furr showed no signs of letting up till the Yanks got to him in the 8th.
