12 inning Battle

Jamien Payne's  infield single with 2 down in the bottom of the 12th brought home the winning run in this typical classic battle between these two teams the Prince William Yankees and the Northern Virginia Dodgers.

The Dodgers went up 2-0 in the 1st taking advantage of two Yankee errors, the Yanks got one back in the 2nd on Catcher Barry Gauch's 2 out rbi single.  Short stop Logan Springer tied it up in the third launching one deep to left in the 3rd inning.  The Dodgers took the lead once again when Dodger center fielder Blauer produced an rbi 2 out single. In the bottom of the eighth  Barry Gauch doubled to left as pinch runner Jordan Lovell came all the way around from first to tie the game at 3. Neither team really threatened until in the bottom of the 12th, with two outs 3B Tim Nargi singled to center, 2B Robbie Kloehn drew a walk and DH Todd Musher reached on an error to load the bases for LF Jamien Payne, Payne worked the count to 3-2,  with runners on the move he grounded up the middle and beat the throw to first to plate the Yankee winning run.

Yankee pitcher Dave Beckner relieved Todd Musher in the 9th and threw 4 innings of of scoreless, hitless relief to earn the win. Dodger Pitcher Nate Hartman was the tough luck loser keeping the Yankees at bay with good moving and location pitching all day for 11 2/3 innings.

Prince William Stadium, VA--- June 14, 2008

Come Back

A pitchers duel that saw little  action until the exciting 6th inning.

The Yankees were up 1-0 , when Potomac Hawks Jose Pabon hit an 0-2 ,2 out 2 run-homerun to take the lead, but the Yanks mounted their second comeback of the day, down to their last out Brian Tirch and Tim Nargi extended the inning by reaching base  this set up the stage for 2B Robbie Kloehn who singled to center to tie the game, then with an 0-2 count LF  Jamien Payne laced a single to center to score Nargi and Kloehn to take a 4-2 lead.  The rains then came and the he Yankees win this one as the game was called due to rain 30 minutes later.

Heritage Field, VA--- June 14, 2008

Salvage a Tie

The day started off just as the Yankees wanted,  The Yanks were up 6-0 and Todd Musher was cruising through into the 5 inning allowing only 3 hawk base runners, but with a 2 strike count he surrendered a 2 run shot as the Hawks pulled to 6-2. But in the 6th is when the wheels fell of  with 3 walks a hit batter and a sinlge the Hawks pulled within one, Jon Bybee came on but walked the next two Hawks and suddenly the Yanks were behind 7-6. In the 7th Bybee surrendered a 2 run shot and the Hawks pulled ahead 9-6.  The Yankees went meekly in the 7th.

In the Eight SS Tim Nargi got things going with a single to right, LF Jamien Payne got an infield single, Barry Gauch then reached on an error allowing Nargi to score, PR Robbie Kloehn got thrown out trying to steal second but Payne scored on the throw,  and with two outs CF Ed Pearson drew a walk, moved to c=second on a botched pick-off attempt then Logan Springer doubled on a wind blown ball that fell between three hawks and teh Yankees came back to salvage a 9-9 tie.

Snake bit

" Snakes Bite Beckner & Yankees Again "   Hoping to redeem his loss against the Virginia Diamondbacks last season David Beckner & the Prince William Yankees couldn't handle the strong hitting D'Backs offense . Collecting 14 hits , including 3 from former Yankee Craig Kaufman (2 RBI's) , and 2 hits a piece from Alan Knapp (2 RBI's) , Nick Richards (2 RBI's) , Devan Ewell (RBI), and newcomer Benji Beasley  who added 2 RBI's and scored twice for his new team ....and a strong pitching performance from starter Keith Eyerman (1-2 , 7 hits , 4 er , 2 K's) , and with the Yankees committing 8 errors in the field the Yanks were whipped up on losing 12-8

Prince William , VA--- June 8, 2008

Singles fest

The Yankees put up ten singles and added a couple doubles and a laser shot to left by 3rd baseman Logan Springer, marching around the bases all day taking this one 14-1. Todd Musher was back to form striking out 9 in only 5 innings of work to improve his record to 4-0.

Chop the snake

The Diamondbacks scored in the top of the 1st to take a 1-0 lead, the Yankee answered back with 3 of their own with the last run coming from a very well executed base running play, with 1st and 3rd George Adam broke for 2nd and stopped 2/3 way down on the throw George stayed in a pickle long enough for  Brian Tirch to race home.

The D'Back's scrapped a run in the 6th then tied it in the 7th on the 3rd Yankee error of the day. but the Yankees defense is actually what saved the game, in the top of the 8th the D'Back's loaded the bases with none out Logan Springer got DH josh Brown to strike out, but the next batter hit a hard ground ball  the left of Yankee 3rd baseman Jordan Lovell who made a stab at it came up with the ball and twisted around to get the force at home.  The next Diamondback  hitter popped up towards third that Jordan lost in the sun, recovered and dove to the third base bag just beating the base runner for the force to end the threat.

Then up came Logan in the bottom of the 8th and deposited 1-0 hanging curve-ball deep to left and the rest was history.

Logan also went the distance on the hill to earn the win striking out 10 along the way. the Yankees will now visit the D'Backs on Tuesday for a re-match at PW Stadium
