2008 Heritage Classic

The Heritage Tournament concluded with the Potomac Hawks claiming the 08' Title when the NV Red Sox could not answer the bell.

Even though the Hawks win it without the Sox battling them for the Title, they more than earned it as they were tied as the best defensive team with the NV Knights only surrendering 7 runs, but they did beat the Knights 2-1 ion teh semi-final earlier in the Tournament.

Congratulations to the Potomac Hawks as the 2008 Heritage Classic Champions.

The Heritage Tournament continued into the play-off format today which saw nail bitters in all 3 games.

In the Consolation  Game the Phillies battled to a 3-2 come from behind win over the Diamondbacks.

In the first Semi-Final  the Red Sox and Ermi's squared off and were tied up at the end of seven 3-3, Each Team traded runs in the 8th and the 9th! before the Sox put two up in the 10th and move onto the finals with a 7-5 win.

and in the other semi final which only took 1 1/2 hours to play the Hawks edged the NV Knights 2-1 on Jose Pabons' two run shot to right center field.

With the results in the Hawks will host the Red Sox in the Heritage Classic Final on Sunday at 1pm

Day two of the Heritage Tournament got off to a chilly start in 41 degree weather, but a gem of a game was turned in by the Diamondbacks and the Red Sox.  The Sox taking a 2-1 lead into the top of the final frame had the Diamondbacks to their last out with no one on base, the D'Backs managed to get a base runner on and then down to their last strike but  second baseman Kannard produced an RBI double to tie at 2 and send the game into extra innings, no team scored in the extra frame and the game ended in a draw under Tournament rules. 

By virtue of least runs given up the Red Sox advanced to the play-offs where they will take on Ermi's baseball club.

The Second game of the day also had play-off implications with the Phillies battling the Hawks, the Hawks swept the Phillies aside however 9-0 advancing to the play-off round to take on the NV Knights.

The Heritage Classic Tournament got underway with 4 games today; with two very close and down to the wire games in the first day of action including a sunny day made for a good opening day.

Game 2: 

Ermi’s Baseball Club took on the Potomac Hawks which saw Ermi’s edge the Hawks 6-5 in tight ball game.

 Tied at 5 going into the 7^th and final inning Ermi’s managed to push a run across to take a 6-5 lead, but the hawks battled right back and put two men on in the bottom of the 7^th, but Ermi’s managed to turn  in an  unorthodox  double play to end the game and take the win.

 Game 3:

The DC Knights of the DC Wood NABA League battled the Blue & Gray defending Champions also to a 5 all tie after 6 innings, the Sox failed to score in the 7^th and that set the stage for the Knights to produce a walk-off base hit to win the game 6-5. 

In The morning game Ermi’s disposed of the Lorton Phillies 11-1.

 In the final game of the day the Knights shut out the Virginia Diamondbacks 9-0

With the Knights winning both their games they clinch the Foxhound Division

and

With Ermi’s winning both their games as well they clinch the Dogwood Division

Games resume tomorrow with the Sox taking on the Diamondbacks , and the Phillies hosting the Hawks.

The Prince William Yankees will host the fifth Heritage classic at Heritage Field.  This is a wood bat tournament open to any teams 18 and over.  The tournament will be 3 game minimum, cost is $400 per team, umpires included.  All proceeds are going to improvements of the field. The tournament will be held over 2 weekends.
